Hans D de Boer, MD, PhD, is a staff anesthesiologist and Pain Specialist in the Department of Anesthesiology, Pain Medicine and Procedural Sedation and Analgesia at the Martini Hospital in Groningen, The Netherlands. In 1997, Dr. De Boer started his training in anesthesiology and pain medicine at the Institute for Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the Radboud University Medical Centre Nijmegen (Department Chair: Prof. Dr. LHDJ Booij). During his specialist training, Dr. de Boer began conducting research on sugammadex at the Experimental Laboratories of Anesthesiology at the same institution in 1998 which resulted in an award winning thesis (2008). He is furthermore scientifically interested in neuromuscular management, perioperative management and patient safety, innovations in anesthesiology and legal issues in perioperative patient care. Furthermore, he is active in the ERAS^® Society as treasurer and then becoming Chairman in July 2022. He has also implemented opioid free/opioid sparing anesthesia techniques programs. Dr de Boer has special interest in obstetric anesthesia in which he is one of the founders of the skin-to-skin caesarean section globally. In all these fields he is involved in educational and scientific programs globally, which resulted in more than 150 international lectures. Dr. de Boer is a member of the Dutch Society of Anesthesiology, the Dutch Society of Pain Medicine, the American Society of Anesthesiologist, the International Anesthesia Research Society, the European Society of Anesthesiology, European Society for Peri Operative Care of the Obese Patient and the ERAS® Society^®. He is the author of several journal publications, abstracts, book chapters, reviews and is a guest reviewer of the major international anesthesia journals and is a member of the Dutch Board of Medical Licensure & Discipline.
