What is already known:
ERAS programmes are now firmly embedded into healthcare systems of high income countries, this unfortunately cannot be said of low and middle income countries.

What this paper adds:
In this interesting review, the authors discuss the development and establishment of ERAS pathways in Latin America. They also shed light on current challenges and future perspectives on perioperative optimization in the region.
